With the U.S. Capitol in the background an Amtrak train heads south out of the District. Passing on the adjacent track is a VRE commuter train.

NS 11R crosses the Potomac River with 6 engines in the consist. The fourth unit is Black River 1853 a GP8. The train was so heavy they advisewd the DS they were in notch 8 doing 19 MPH.
Flames and smoke emerge from the lead unit obscuring the rear of the train as it makes its way up the grade.
