With available "waterwood" in the bay the railroad has been busy hauling logs up the hill to Mill 5. The mid-day train is beginning a return to town with empty log flats.

The approach of an eastbound grain train illuminates the Winton Tunnel entrance and as it disappears into the mountain the blinking FRED beckons a return to the dark of night.
After darkness falls, the inside of the mountain comes alive. The rumble and light of a fast moving vehicle train grows until it explodes out of the bore at 50 MPH.
A few days before this picture was taken a wild brush fire had blackened the side of Providence Coulee and a burnt smell still lingered.
