Looks as if CP never took over. 2 IC&E SD40-2's head 171 for Saint Paul on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Coke loads head east towards the siding at Frontenac due to the lead engine quit loading. Any idea where this train is destin for?
Catching the last rays of sun, 299 thunders west with 2 classic CP SD40-2's leading the way. Due to a meet at Homer with 298 and a slow order just prior to the siding, Amtrak 7 was delayed by abou... (more)
Thumbs up go out to Scott W. for getting a P42DC to smoke like an Alco. Thats talent! Amtrak 8 throttles up for a second spot, before taking off for La Crosse.
My "Shot of the Day" is of 811 throttling out of Homer on a restricting signal, behind train 499. A Mac sandwiched by two ACe's sure made one hell of a lash-up.
Running only several hundred feet behind 499, 811 pulls down to Homer west where it will await a restricting to follow 499. Both 499 and 811 held the main at Homer to let 580 by allowing them to b... (more)
An old telegraph pole from Milwaukee Road days still stands tall near Louisa St, meanwhile 581's power ties back onto the train before continuing west. Sure was different to see blue and yellow le... (more)
As I arrived at the tracks, I heard way freight 581 was switching in Winona, but when the power came around the curve I was quite shocked to find an IC&E SD40-2 leading the way. In this shot, cond... (more)
Nipping at 171's heels was 809, coal empties heading back to Wyoming. They sure had the order right on this consist!
Sure got the right order here! DM&E 6068, CITX 2785, and CP 9824 (Holiday Train unit) highball over 10th Street in Winona as it thunders west.
After returning to the train and preforming an air-test, 581-22 was back on the move west with a decent train. Hot on it's heels was 271, who had been holding at Homer.
A great pair of pacman SD40-2's preform an unique switching operation at the 308 cross-over switch. Once in a blue moon 581 will use the switch to drop cars, but usually it is G77's job.
A somewhat rare decent looking Dual Flag SD40-2, 6001, along with CP 5963 make good time through Winona on 499-20 late in the day. Sure was nice to see some SD40-2 is great evening light!
After kicking off some riders at Donehower, 171 is on its way west with 4 SD40-2's in some beautiful evening sunlight.
A pickup truck darts across the track last second, right ahead of 499. Note that the train was doing every bit of track speed (50MPH). People sure can be idiots!
