Dozens of old locomotives sit unused at the east end of National Railway Equipment’s Silvis facility.

Older EMD and GE locomotives sit at the east end of NRE’s Silvis facility. The units labeled “Lewis” are sadly destined for scrap.

Three rows of engines sit at National Railway Equipment in Silvis, IL. With the facility closing, some of these locomotives will likely be scrapped sometime in the near future.

Most, if not all of this will more than likely be scrap metal or razor blades pretty soon with the announcement of this plant closing up shop.

A ex-UP SD40M-2, now NREX 2748, leads the Stillwater Central train 407 by the glass plant in Sapulpa, OK towards Oklahoma City. NREX 2748 is originally a ex-CNW SD45 and rebuilt by UP and NREX.
