NJ Transit has unveiled their next heritage unit, and they continue to outdo themselves. NJTR 4208 is probably one of the most faithful reproductions of the Conrail paint scheme since "big Conrail" was merged out of existence in 1999. Conrail did operate commuter service in New Jersey from its inception until NJ Transit officially took over in 1983, making this an appropriate nod to that piece of their history. 4208 was officially unveiled during NJ Transit's "Family Day" event and was posed next to 4101 which wears 1970s-era NJ DOT paint. These units look good together, considering Conrail units did occasionally operate in commuter service when NJ DOT was short of power. 4208 was built as a PC GP40 3191 and became CR 3191, so this is not the first time it has worn blue paint.
