The Utah Transit Authority is currently expanding light rail service in the Salt Lake Valley to the communities of Draper, South Jordan, West Valley City, and the Salt Lake International Airport. Pictured at 6th West, construction crews lay new rail down the middle of North Temple Street for the airport line. The right of way will occupy the north side of the North Temple viaduct crossing both the Union Pacific Lynndyl Sub and UTA's commuter rail line to Ogden. From this point westward, the track will occupy the center of North Temple street to 22nd West where it will move on a private right of way on the north shoulder of Interstate 80. The airport line is scheduled to open for service in 2012.
