Chesapeake & Ohio 614 thunders through a downpour as it crests Sand Patch Grade in Pennsylvania with the Chessie Safety Express.

The Chessie Safety Express crosses the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry as it makes its way from Baltimore to Cumberland, Md., for a weekend of attacking 17 Mile Grade and Sand Patch Grade.

The former Chessie System caboose in Bostic, NC (C&O 3213) is seen on another lonely night in eastern North Carolina.

One of the "ugly duckling" Geeps chop-nosed by the Western Maryland's Hagerstown Shops awaits its fate. The unit was built by EMD in February, 1955 as WM Class DS-24 No. 30.

"Our Greatest Asset Is People," as noted at the bottom of the unique old Chessie Shops sign in Cumberland.
