We're at the Singer crossovers on the Norfolk and Western mainline, west of Roanoke. High short hood C628 1115 leads four other assorted units on a westbound manifest.

A Southern FP7 heads two E7 units on the eastbound BIRMINGHAM SPECIAL just east of Roanoke. It had been ten years since I visited this famous railfan spot.

Class A 1210 passes between position light signals with a westbound freight downgrade to Roanoke.

Class A 1221 is steaming nicely as it passes beneath the bridge at Blue Ridge with a westbound empty hopper train.

Famous class A 1218 drifts westbound down the Blue Ridge grade with a merchandise train that will soon be in Roanoke.

Leased ACL E7 A-B units pull upgrade with train 4, POCAHONTAS, at Blue Ridge.

Southern E8 6910 leads an E7 under the bridge at Blue Ridge with train 45, TENNESSEAN, on a beautiful fall afternoon.

The sunlight was dramatic and the hills very lush as Y6a 2158 pushes the afternoon freight headed by two other Y6 locomotives.

A bit of hazy sunlight illuminates Y6a 2157 pushing a steel caboose on the freight led by class A 1217.
