Lumber Loads In Autumn | Mid-morning on a cool, overcast Monday, November 3, 2025, an eastbound manifest freight train cruises through the Cabinet Mountains of western Montana just east of the community of Heron. The first several cars of the train are centerbeam cars loaded with lumber, a staple of trains in the northwestern US.
