Chicago Burlington and Quincy SD9 440 at East St. Louis IL May 1970. The 440 was built in August 1957 and retired in June 1986. This SD9 has yet to be renumbered BN 6187 in this photo. CB&Q 440-459 were classified as "SD9s", with the S denoting single control stand. Most CB&Q SD7/9 models were equipped with dual control stands. All of the 400 series diesels were strictly freight service with single fuel tanks and dynamic brakes on some. All of the 300 series CB&Q Diesels were equipped with steam boilers, extra tanks for water and Dynamic Brakes. Unknown Photographer Photo from my Collection.
