| Oneida and Western SD40-2 9951 at the EMD La Grange Plant in McCook IL October 1979. The Oneida and Western was not an actual railroad with it's own tracks but rather a way for Shamrock Coal Co to ensure it's product made it to it's destination. Shamrock was having trouble with the Louisville and Nashville supplying cars and motive power to move their coal to it's buyer so Shamrock bought their own equipment and ran these trains with L&N crews. These SD40-2s were built to L&N specs and were painted in this attractive two-tone green paint scheme. Eventually these EMDs wer bought by BC Rail. James Claflin Photo from my Collection. |
