Everyday railroading in Iran.
An EMD GT26CW-2 and a G22W hold back a train of oil cans on the steep grades, descending nearly 2200 meters from the highlands towards the Caspian Sea on the Trans-Iranian Railway. Passing behind the photographer, the train will loop over the highway and enter the tunnel visible on the far right of the photograph.
This photograph was taken at a time when economic sanctions against Iran had been eased, and with the full knowledge and consent of the railway security officials who accompanied our group. |
