Remarks & Notes |
Number 8420, a 1957-built ALCo.-MLW FPD7-model, rests between runs in General San Martín R.R.'s diesel shed in Mendoza. Unit still sports its original black/silver MLW builder's plate and a good bath of the powdery light-gray dust so classic of Mendoza's dry weather. Argentinean rail enthusiasts will note the two different kinds of hooks used to catch single-line clearance orders: the San Martín R.R.'s bent-spear-type just below the side window and General Mitre R.R.'s hook at a higher level between the window and access door frames. The former indicates the unit is run-through to General Mitre R.R.'s lines, hauling oil trains from Mendoza to San Lorenzo (in the Province of Santa Fe). |
