One of the coolest operations I have seen in Southern Detroit has to be the Delray Connecting Railroad. Operating over about 2 miles on the north end of the CN Flat Rock Sub. Loads come out of the smelter on Zug Island, cross the river and proceed about 2 miles to the mill where it is formed. Passing by some standing water as a result of recent heavy rains, DC 64, a SW1001 rumbles to the mill with a single bottle car as the infamous "Ditchlight Dan" comes out to inform me of another train heading back to the smelter, and then proceed to announce to the world that there were people out taking pictures, including plant security. Oh well, we escaped the authorities for another day.
