Conrail Freight headed for Braintree. The Government takeover of Penn Central and 4 other systems is so recent that the Reading unit is still in original Reading livery.

18,000 almost brand new horses pulling the grade to Washington. On the rear another 3,000 horses are helping. Whether or not we liked it that much in 1977, we all miss it now.

Freight from Middleboro heads north to Framingham. The train had to switchback at Attleboro so it had a caboose at each end of the train.
