Northbound CSX P001, with a deadhead move of the office car special bound for an event in Erwin, passes between Piegonroost and Huntdale, North Carolina on their trip North along the Toe River. This whole area of track, along with NC Route 197 below, was wiped out due to flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. As mentioned in the other days post, the line just reopened this past week for revenue service after being out of service for a year. CSX built the new flood wall along this couple of mile stretch of track, and has their track in prime operating condition.
CSX has diverse passenger operations that include office car specials, trips to major events like the Kentucky Derby, track geometry trains and the annual Santa Claus train over the northern section of the fallen flag Clinchfield Railroad.
