Remarks & Notes
Deseret Ry's morning coal train is seen here crossing under Utah Highway 45 through the dull, gray claystone badlands on it’s way back to the Deserado Mine in western Colorado for yet another load of coal for the Bonanza Power Plant. The plant’s stack is visible at the far left of the image. Today’s train of 44 cars and 7200 tons is the norm for the Deseret Ry and rates the usual 3 6000 hp GE E60’s for power. The sight, whining sound and low rumble of the 18,000 General Electric horsepower train out here on the barren Utah uplands is not soon to be forgotten.
