In 2022 Conway Scenic purchased GP38 255 from Vermont Rail Systems. It was built in 1966 for Maine Central Railroad and has joined sister locomotive 252 pulling trains on home rails over Crawford Notch. The railroad used the engine for three years in Vermont Rail Systems red, but recently panted it in a Maine Central inspired heritage scheme.
The 9am Mountaineer is seen crossing the 520' Frankenstein Trestle, with the namesake Frankenstein Cliffs high above the train.
Beautiful mountain scenery has made this small state a draw for rail buffs to ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Conway Scenic, among others.
