The End Of The F40 Era. On September 20, 2024, Caltrain announced that Train 132 will be its last F40 hauled train, which their post suggest will be JPBX 920 as progresses towards electric operation with Stadler built EMUs. So let's take a look back to Saturday, December 26, 1998, when the last F40 to operate today was brand new. JPBX 920 (F40PH-2C, MPI, 12/1998) was sitting spotless and bright at the Caltrain Depot/San Francisco 4th and King Street station. The original commuter railroad here was built in 1863 under the San Francisco & San Jose Railroad and purchased in 1870 by the Southern Pacific (SP), which held on for over a century. Today is managed by CalTrain and operated by Herzog TransitAmerica.
