Remarks & Notes
With the notable Castle Rock landmark in the background, Santa Fe No.200 rolls northbound on March 30, 1967. E8M #81 was rebuilt in 1953 from #2B, a 1937 model E1. Santa Fe owned the entire production of eigth E1A and three E1B units. The distinctive smooth nose of the E1 was similar to the earlier B&O EA units which were also rebuilt into E8Ms in 1953. Photo by K. Crist, part of my slide collection.

The Santa Fe's warbonnet paint scheme on passenger diesel locomotives was one of the most iconic in railroading. It appealed to travelers and modellers alike, and helped brand Santa Fe all the way from Chicago to California and Texas.
