Rehab time. The former Boston & Maine Railroad bridge over the Merrimack River in Haverhill, MA was built and reformed in various stages from 1839 through 1928, creating the current two-track steel truss bridge. Because of the daily use by MBTA, Pan Am, and Amtrak, the contractor has come up with a specific schedule that states that involves minimal full outages in order to reinforce and replace aging portions of the span. The State of Massachusetts had previously applied for federal aid to replace the bridge, but was denied and instead a year later asked for and received the money to rehabilitate the current structure. Pan Am Railways POAY (Portland, Maine-Ayer, Massachusetts) is seen crossing the river on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 3, 2021 with corporate blue units MEC 7561 (née-CSX 7561, C40-8 and 3400 (née-QNSL 224, SD40-2) leading a substantial manifest train.
