If I had to pick one locomotive to symbolize first generation diesels, it would be EMD's F7, some 3,849 of which were built for service in the US, Canada, and Mexico. New York Central 1783, not yet patched by Penn Central's painters, posed at Selkirk Yard in Octobr 1969.
