Remarks & Notes
Before the SDP40Fs Arrived … Or Were Even Built !

On an October 1972 morning, needing a little help, Amtrak train 3, the Southwest Limited, arrived on Track 6 at Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal behind Santa Fe SD45 5526 (ex-ATSF 1826) and an A-B set of F7s (including F7A 309C). Over on Track 7 is Santa Fe F7A 306C, which will soon be heading back with 5526, 309C and the unseen F7B to the Redondo Junction roundhouse for servicing. Santa Fe 306C (ex-ATSF 39C) was later renumbered 347C, becoming perhaps the most-photographed Santa Fe F-unit of all time, and now a part of the collection at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento.
