Remarks & Notes

With helpers ahead of the road power and two more on the rear, a 137 car westbound manifest is 21st of 22 trains in four hours at MG, back when it was still a part-time open office. The air lines for the pneumatic switches and the position light signals leave no doubt as to the heritage of this former PRR artery. Of particular interest is the design of MG, opened in 1944 during the crush of WWII traffic. Its brick construction with angled columns somewhat mirrored the stone architecture of earlier block stations such as Homer, in Altoona, and KN, IA and AG along the grade between Horseshoe Curve and the Allegrippus.
