Remarks & Notes
NJ Transit held an official unveiling of their new "dual-powered" locomotive at Newark Penn Station today. The ALP-45DP is touted as the "first of its kind in North America" (FL9 notwithstanding). These locomotives will be able to operate as a typical diesel-electric in non-electrified territory or as a straight electric locomotive, drawing power from overhead catenary. There are currently 26 on order and they will be constructed in Germany. At least one other unit is currently in the USA, and has been shipped to the TTC in Pueblo, CO for testing. Click here for a companion view of NJT 4664, which is coupled to 4500 in this view.
