This Chinese diesel locomotive cannot deny its American origin. Over the years, China has imported a number of foreign diesel locomotives. The most successful are certainly the ND5 class diesel electric Co-Co’s built by General Electric in the mid 1980’s. The first 200, including the 0153 seen here at the Sujiatun shed, were basically GE's standard 3600 HP, C36-7 model. The later locomotives had a modified cab and lower short hood. China bought more than 400 ND5, many more than were bought by US railroads.
