Remarks: On a bitter cold January night, CP train 487 sits in the old siding at River Junction waiting for a crew to take it north to the DM&E at Minnesota City. The lights along Interstate 90 provide good illumination for the Mississippi River Bluffs.

Remarks: Loaded unit ethanol train heads south over a frozen Turkey River. This train met two westbounds on the Mason City Sub at Ossian, IA and then had a straight shot to Dubuque, IA on the Marquette Sub where they met the northbound 171.

Remarks: This photo required enduring -13 below zero temps and standing in the cold water of Bloody Run Creek. Well worth it in my opinion! Loaded unit ethanol train nears the West Yard Limit at Marquette.

Remarks: It's not every day you see Amtrak #8 westbound over the CP Mississippi River Bridge. #8 detoured over the BNSF St. Croix Subdivision from St. Paul - La Crosse after CP train 487 derailed in Winona, MN blocking the CP mainline. After gaining CP tracks again near Grand Crossing, #8 headed west to LaCrescent, MN to wye the train. After a brief stop at the La Crosse depot, #8 headed east towards Chicago on its normal CP route.

Remarks: The suicide train. After taking this photo, I was walking off the bridge when two police cars surrounded me. Apparently someone in a passing vehicle was concerned that I was going to attempt suicide and called the police. The police were courteous and after learning that I was only taking photos let me go on my way.
