For a time Union Pacific painted the 8444 in passenger paint gray. On an October morning she leads a special under the C&S bridge in Cheyenne, WY.

After all was said and done, the UP units backed off the wye. They made a fine sight under the US flag and the Watasch Mountains, a fitting post for the upcoming July 4th holiday.
