AMTK 130, Amtrak's second Phase II anniversary unit, finds itself in an odd position as it bakes in the afternoon sun at Needles, Calf. The 19-year-old unit had been the trailing unit on this morning's westbound Southwest Chief but developed a mechanical issue that forced it to be set out. As the specially painted unit waits for repairs that will eventually have it traveling the final miles to LA the following day, its business as usual for BNSF as one of the more unique trains utilizing the Transcon today, a military train, rolls to a stop for its crew change.
