The big news on the Union Pacific back in the Summer of 1984 was the reactivation of most of their Centennial fleet of DDA40X "double diesels".
Near the very end of their short lived return to service, I was lucky enough to catch the Union Pacific #6923 leading Westbound approaching Barstow on the point of a Van train.
The consist included a pair of SD40-2's, another Centennial and then one more SD40-2.
