Remarks & Notes
Amtrak train 513, an Amtrak Cascades weekend service train, is just a few miles out of Portland Union Station. This train originated at Union Station and is heading south to Eugene-Springfield on Union Pacific’s Brooklyn Sub. Amtrak Non-Powered Control Unit (NPCU) 90250 (ex-AMTK F40PH 250) is leading the train, which is made up of low-slung Talgo Series VI Pendular passenger cars, which are designed to feature "natural tilting," using a passive system that tilts the carriages as they traverse curves with no need for electronic sensors or hydraulic equipment. From Vancouver, BC, to Eugene, OR, this route runs along stretches of Puget Sound and the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. The TALGO trainsets that were the line's backbone for many years were withdrawn from service after they were cited in the 2017 crash
