Remarks: East of Tucson, the Southern Pacific's mainline incorporates the parallel former El Paso & Southwestern main as well. Track 1, the EP&SW line, crosses over Track 2 (the other main) as well as Cienega Creek, as seen here with SP GP60 9728 leading an eastbound manifest on February 12, 1995.
Remarks: On the rear of a CSX freight heading south through Washington D.C., a pleasant surprise in the middle of 2009 ... A caboose! Kasgro Rail Lines caboose 0077 brings up the rear on a freight at the L'Enfant Plaza Virginia Rail Express station.
Remarks: An Orange Line subway train, heading from Vienna-Fairfax (VA) to New Carrollton (MD), pauses at the Stadium-Armory station on June 28, 2009. These Rohr-built cars were the first cars operated on the Metro when it opened in the 1970s.
Remarks: Heading north, Maryland Transit Association light rail vehicles 5030 and 5037 depart Camden Yards (home of the Baltimore Orioles). In the background is the Baltimore & Ohio's Camden Station, opened in 1857 and closed in the 1980s! (It is now a sports museum.) In February 1861, Abraham Lincoln travelled through Camden Station on his way to Washington D.C. to be inaugurated as President of the United States. News of the Battle of Fort Sumter (beginning the Civil War) first reached Baltimore on April 12, 1861, at the B&O's Camden Station telegraph office and, the following week, Union troops of the 6th Massachusettes Regiment travelling south on the B&O barricaded themselves at Camden Station when they were attacked by Confederate sympathizers in the Baltimore riot of 1861.
Remarks: As the iconic Bromo Seltzer Tower looms in the background, a Cromwell-bound Maryland Transit Association light rail vehicle passes through downtown Baltimore. Next stop: Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles (and the game that is about to begin would see them lose to the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings).
