The Amtrak Empire Builder has made its station stop for passengers, crew change and minor servicing on a beautiful June morning in 1972. BN E8 9943, painted in full BN passenger colors, leads the way and gets its face washed while passengers board the train for Milwaukee and Chicago. Little evidence of Amtrak exists in this photo other than the fact the train is on the Milwaukee Road instead of CB&Q (BN). Note the Milwaukee water tower.

The Empire Builder crosses the state on its way to St. Paul, Seattle and Portland. The Hiawatha Corridor between Milwaukee and Chicago is one of Amtrak's busiest routes.
