They say if you hang out long enough around the railroad you'll see just about anything. On the first weekend of 2004, the Coast Starlights met at the depot in Klamath Falls, Oregon. On the left, No. 14 is departing about two hours late. It had to wait for a crew to arrive on a Horizon Air flight from Portland. On the right, No. 11 has just arrived, nearly 12 hours late. The delay was due to a severe winter storm in the Cascades.
Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
