Remarks & Notes
Conrail Class N-21 caboose No. 21243 brings up the rear of a westbound manifest east of Newport, in the beautiful Juniata River Valley. Conrail ordered 113 N-21s from the Fruit Growers Express Co. in Alexandria, Virginia in 1978, numbering them 21201-21313. It was their only order for cabooses, with the N-21s having extra seating for deadheading crews and weighing in at a little over 26 tons. Today, the third track and code lines are gone, and the forest has grown up considerably.
