Remarks & Notes
Amtrak's Desert Wind (train #36) passes through the "moonscape" at the north end of Victorville, California, on December 28, 1980 as it makes its way from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City. F40PHs 222 and 249 are in charge of this motley-looking train, comprised of heritage cars (including a former Santa Fe Hi-Level transition coach), an Amfleet car and Superliners in various paint schemes.

Depicts Amtrak's "Desert Wind" service, which operated from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, via Las Vegas. Its discontinuance in 1997 left the lower Intermountain region, including Las Vegas, without any passenger rail service since.
