Railcar ABe 4/4 # 34 of the Rhaetian Railway, built in 1908 by SIG and SAAS as BCe 4/4 # 4 for the Bernina Railway, is running along the Lago Binaco near the Continental divide, between Bernina Lagalb and Ospizio Bernina, as extra train 92627 from Pontresina to Alp Grüm, for a foreign group. In the background is 3246 meter high Piz Ot, north of the Engadin, more then 21 kilometer away. The striking trapezoidal structures are known as “crosswind deflectors” (in german Kreuzkolktafeln) which are designed to reduce snow accumulation on the Bernina line by altering wind currents.
