| Remarks & Notes |
| The Valley Railroad, also known as the Essex Steam train is special in that they maintain and operate three coal fired steam locomotives. During the busy Christmas season all three can be found under steam, and a diesel is usually handling a fourth train set.
On the Saturday before Christmas the 2;30 pm train which is the second of the day has just departed Essex and is crossing Main Street. Locomotive #3025 was built in July 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works and was exported to the Knox and Kane Railroad in Pennsylvania. The engine was destroyed in an arson fire on the property in 2008 and sold at auction to the Valley Railroad. Here it was rebuilt to resemble a New Haven Class J-1 and has been in service since 2011. |
