Remarks & Notes
This 4-8-4 steam locomotive, number 3780, was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railray. It was built in August, 1941, just a few months before the United States entered WWII. It had a total engine and tender weight of 869,785 lbs., and a tractive force (at 70%) of 66,000 lbs. It was built in Eddystone, Pennsylvania, where my great, great Uncle Robert F. McKee, Sr., worked as a design engineer at Baldwin. This Baldwin Locomotive Works builders photo card is from the John R. Doughty collection.
