Remarks & Notes |
The Tren Universitario (University Train) heads back into the historic 1906 La Plata station. I drove here from Buenos Aires to catch the unique railcar that serves this line. Built in 1948, the series 0100 was made by Swedish manufacturer NOHAB for Portuguese Railways, which purchased them using American foreign aid from the Marshall Plan. Only 15 of these were ever made, and six were purchased in 2013 by the Argentinian government for branch service. This train was inaugurated in 2013 to connect the various facilities of the University of La Plata with the city's main railroad terminal. The route is approximately 3 miles long and runs along the perimeter of the city. |
