Amtrak train 3, the westbound Southwest Chief, has unloaded its passenger after arriving on Track 9 at Los Angeles Union Station 1 hour 30 minutes late. AMTK P42DCs 137 and 189 had 9 cars in tow.
On the adjacent Track 8 is Metrolink train 1751, a weekend service train from Perris to Los Angeles. This train had Korean-built "CTC-5" cab car 663 leading. These cars were built by Hyundai-Rotem from 2010 to 2013, and a bit over a decade later, they are showing a lot of paint wear. (The interiors are find, though, and that’s what the passengers care about.)
The following day, there would be an active shooter on the railroad along the Los Angeles River, creating a delay of five hours for that day's arrival of train 3, along with all the other Amtrak Surfliners and Metrolink trains heading to and from Union Station. What a mess! (Los Angeles, California – September 20, 2025)
