Freshly repainted Long Island Rail Road GE 25-Tonner #399 sits at the Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead, New York, on June 1st, 2025. Built by General Electric in August 1958 as a class GS-1 “25 tonner,” the 150-horsepower switcher spent its career at the LIRR’s Morris Park shops, where its compact size allowed it to share the diagonal transfer bridge with larger locomotives while shuttling them in and out for repair and maintenance. After sitting retired at Morris Park, #399 was trucked to the museum in December 2005, where it now resides. Its two sisters, LI 397 and LI 398, are preserved at the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum.
