Good Morning Topeka. Running about 6 hours after the revenue train, the Southwest Chief Inspection Train arrived in Topeka, Kansas at sunrise on the morning of August 4, 2016. Led by the 40th Anniversary Phase III painted pair of AMTK 145 (P42DC) and 822 (P40DC), the train traveled from Kansas City, Missouri to Albuquerque, New Mexico to facilitate meetings with railroad executives, politicians, and interest groups that worked to create a coalition that funded upgrades to the line. In the background is the expansive BNSF Topeka Shop, which has been relocated in the past but has been serving as a major mechanical facility in this area for the railroad since the 1860s.
