"Going, Going, Gone!": Reading & Northern T1 4-8-4 #2102 heads south on the final leg of a round trip between Nesquehoning and Tunkhannock, PA on June 21, 2025. This picture was taken on Mt. Pisgah in Jim Thorpe. The trail to this view is along the former Switchback Railroad which offered visitors to the "Switzerland of America" a hair raising rollercoaster ride down the mountain at speeds of almost 50 mph for just 75 cents! In 1873, the Switchback Railroad carried 30,478 passengers.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
