In the late afternoon of a long career, E6 12 was still handling Nos. 11-12 between Kansas City and Dallas in December 1964. 12 had left EMC in April 1940 and worked until it was damaged in a July 1965 accident and its remains were then sold to EMD in 1966 for credit on a new 5000-class SD40.
