Waiting At The Engine House. On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Delaware & Hudson Railway Historical Society announced the acquisition of former D&H Alco RS-3 4085, and that it would be moved to the Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway and restored to operating condition. This locomotive saw a few owners after D&H, and in the 1990s, operated for the New York & Greenwood Lake Railway in Passaic, New Jersey. After the NYGL ceased regular operations, it was moved to the yard in Port Jervis, New York, where it sat for many years before moving and making the last leg of its journey from Saratoga Springs to Corinth, New York on Monday, April 28, 2025. While the paint scheme decision has not yet been made, several are under consideration for its restoration. The SCH maintains two operating RS3s, SCHX/former DH 4103 and 4118, that were used for this move. The power traveled the length of the southern end of the former Delaware & Hudson Adirondack Branch that is under SCH control from Corinth to just before CPC 38 in Saratoga Springs round trip during the afternoon, where the unit had been dropped off by CPKC G48 in the morning. On the morning of April 26, 2025, it is seen in the CPKC Saratoga Springs Yard, waiting to be moved the next day.
New York state has the largest number of ALCO diesel locomotives working in everyday service. Here are some of them. Soon I hope to chronicle all of them.
