Remarks & Notes |
One can see the old grade for the branch line that ran from Waukon Junction out to Waukon, IA. That line was built in 1877 as a 23-mile narrow-gauge branch. In 1880 the MILW acquired the line from the Waukon and Mississippi Railroad and made it into standard gauge. The line was built to mainly serve mines full of rich ore deposits around the Waukon area. The line was abandoned in 1972 after the mines were closed.
The high-class CP passenger train will soon pass over Painted Creek and will be in Marquette in about 7 miles for a crew change. The chase down the Marquette Sub was pretty amazing on Thursday. |
