During the night of August 18, 2024, heavy rainstorms triggered historic flooding across western Connecticut. As a precaution, the cities of Ansonia and Derby activated their "Local Protection" systems, including the closure of four swing-style gates over the CTDOT/Metro-North Railroad Waterbury Branch. These gates shield the cities from the rising waters of the Naugatuck and Housatonic Rivers. Pictured here is the closed flood gate at Ansonia Station, captured as the tail end of the storms passed in the early hours of August 19th.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
