| When Chicago & North Western placed their order for C44-9W's. They decided to save a little money by ordering them without air conditioning. So soon as the temperatures got warm in the coal Fields. The crews would open the front doors to get a little ventilation in the cab. I was hard to find one with the door closed. They did have a blower fan, that was extremely noisy. We had a crew invite us up in the cab. The gave us a demonstration of the fan. We agreed leaving the doors open was the best option. |
