Subway Street Running.
In the early morning hours of March 1, 2024, the New York City Transit Authority took delivery of five new R211A subway cars: no.s 4185 through 4189. Unlike previous deliveries - except earlier this same week - these cars were put on the rails on a different track than usual; one typically used to serve the Sims Metal Management plant at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. Thus in order to get the cars onto into the Subway system, they first had to be brought out onto the street trackage on 1st Avenue so that the TA locomotives could be coupled on.
Here we see R47 locomotive no. 66 (GE, 1974-1975) on the head end of a "power pack" with R161 rider car RD437 (converted from R33 no. 8937) and R41 locomotive no. 59 (GE, 1967-1968). The power pack has just coupled onto the R211A consist and will shortly take them across 2nd and 3rd Avenues on the South Brooklyn Railway and into the Subway system itself.
